Differs from Brown Argus in that the orange markings on the upper forewings are absent, those on the hind wings are small and the underside is paler with smaller black spots. As it is difficult to tell the differences between Brown Argus and Northern Brown Argus identification should be made by site combined with flight period as they both can be found at some traditional Northern Brown Argus sites. Restricted to areas of limestone where its sole larval foodplant Rock Rose grows.
